A symphony must be like the world - it must contain everything
— Gustav Mahler

Antony Hermus is adventurous in his programming, eclectic in his tastes and with a relish for different styles.

His repertoire has at its heart the great romantic works and the early 20th-century masterpieces. It is wide-ranging, with a preference for German and Slavic repertoire (Brahms, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Prokofiev) and with a particular emphasis on the great works of Mahler, Bruckner and Strauss.

He is also committed to contemporary music – notably to the works of Unsuk Chin, among others.

A strong advocate of Dutch composers, he has recorded music by Johannes Wagenaar and Alphons Diepenbrock, and performed and premiered works by composers such as Willem Jeths, Rob Zuidam, Theo Verbey, Tristan Keuris.
