INSPIRING MASTERCLASSES in STOCKHOLM

In the beginning of June, Antony stepped in for four days of Conducting Masterclasses with the prestigious Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm. During this time, he coached five exceptionally talented young conductors from Norway's Dirigentforum and Sweden's Kungl. Musikhögskolan.

The experience was profoundly touching. The immense support from this top-tier orchestra and the openness and trust of the young conductors created a truly special atmosphere. Together, they embarked on a journey to uncover the meaning behind the notes, explore self-awareness, and understand how to “flow” in Bruckner.

They discussed having “friendlyeyes” while conducting Fledermaus, avoiding bar lines, bringing out the love in Tristan, and maintaining laser focus. They also delved into being the “inspirator,” using non-violent communication in both words and gestures, and, most importantly, making orchestra musicians and everyone around us the best versions of themselves.

A big bravo to Christian, Jakob, Nina, Jason, and Kristoffer for embracing Antony’s sometimes unconventional coaching methods. And a massive shoutout to all the incredible musicians of the Swedish Radio Orchestra for their unwavering support, to Electra for her beautiful playing, and to Matthieu Lescure and Dorran Alibaud for making it all happen!

“Coaching is not just about imparting knowledge but inspiring change. Learning is not just about absorbing facts but achieving true understanding.”

This week was a testament to the transformative power of music and the shared pursuit of excellence.
