North Netherlands Orchestra: Mahler 9 and contract renewal

In their Mahler-Cycle, the North Netherlands Orchestra played - for the first time in 19 years - the enormous 9th Symphony of Mahler. After the highly emotional performance the audience held their breath for almost a minute - and gave thunderous applause for the breathtaking moments the orchestra created…

Two Five star-reviews in the Dutch newspapers confirmed the high level of the North Netherlands Orchestra and their chemistry with Antony:

“Truly a top performance. An interpretation in which courage and quality competed for priority. Antony Hermus is the big trigger and driver of this courage. Hermus built the first part of the symphony with a master’s hand. The string sound was to die for. And the fantastic solos of flautist Francesco Gatti and hornist Hanna Guirten may serve as an example for the quality of the entire NNO. The second miracle occurred at the end, where Mahler let his music, and therefore himself, die out in the sky. Hermus turned these barely audible bars into something unforgettable. The emotion was vibrating in the room. Magic.”

The concert will be broadcast on 26th of December at NPO Radio 4.

This week it was also announced that Antony will extend his contract as principal guest conductor with the North Netherlands Orchestra until 2024, to continue their successful collaboration.
